Two legendary comedians, Andy Kaufman and Redd Foxx, will “perform” in hologram form for a U.S. tour.

In the past, holograms have been an experiment in resurrecting deceased celebrities and to see them in true form even though they are a computerized program. The most notable hologram to be successful was that of the rapper Tupac, who was shown performing at the Coachella festival.

Hologram USA, the technology company that specializes in the visual recreations of celebrities, plans to use the likenesses of Kaufman and Foxx and parts of their recorded routines to create a real live show of the two comedians to tour the country sometime next year. “They’re comedy icons,” said Alki David, the founder and chief executive of Hologram USA. “Both of them influenced so many comedians after them.” David also stated that these shows “will have residencies in multiple locations in tourist-oriented cities across the country.” Both estates of Kaufman and Foxx have stated that these shows will be an “authentic experience” and will be treated as if both comedians were alive today.

Foxx was a a popular comedian of the 1970s and the first black comedian to win over white audiences and also starred as Fred Sanford in the famous television sitcom Sanford and Son in the late 1970s. Kaufman, who never thought he was actually funny and odd comedy stylings, is best known as his time on the television show Taxi as Latka Gravas.
