Las Vegas Police Search Home In Connection To Tupac Shakur’s 1994 Murder

Las Vegas police searched a house in Henderson, Nevada, in connection to the murder investigation of Tupac Shakur. 

The home is located about 20 miles away from the scene of the crime on the Las Vegas Strip. Officials decided that they had gathered enough evidence to obtain a search warrant and entered the house.  

The Las Vegas Metro PD SWAT team was on hand and police utilized lights and bullhorns. Investigators were searching for computers and articles written about Tupac and his murder. The evidence collected will be presented to a grand jury in Las Vegas. 

The only details released in a statement by officials stated, “LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation.” They ended by saying, “We will have no further comment at this time.”

Shakur was murdered on September 7, 1996, while he was in a black BMW with Marion “Suge” Knight, who at the time was the CEO of Death Row Records. The two men were driving from a boxing match they attended at the MCM Grand. 

While on the way to their destination, they stopped at a red light on Koval Lane and East Flamingo Road, which is located on the Las Vegas Strip. While waiting for the light, a white Cadillac drove up next to their vehicle and started shooting at the men. Shakur was shot multiple times and was immediately brought to the hospital where he died six days later. 

The investigation is still ongoing, as Nevada does not have a statute of limitations on homicide cases. Las Vegas police have also shared that they did not make any arrests in connection to his death as witnesses at the scene were unwilling to cooperate. 

It has been shared previously that officials believe that the gunman is already dead. The investigation is mainly aimed at discovering who was in the car with the shooter in hopes of charging them as an accomplice.

Shakur’s legacy is still growing – in 2017, Snoop Dogg inducted him into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In June, the singer was awarded a posthumous star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, which his sister Sekyiwa ‘Set’ Shakur received on his behalf. 

While his career was short-lived, Shakur has won six Grammys and sold more than 75 million records.
