When Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 17, it will be without one of the show’s most lovable characters, Hodor (Kristian Nairn), whose teary death was mourned by viewers everywhere towards the end of the show’s sixth and most recent season.

But now, Hodor fans can rejoice! Nairn has reprised his character – with a bit of a twist – for a new Game of Thrones-themed KFC commercial.

The commercial, an advertisement for KFC’s new chicken and rice box, is largely based on Hodor’s final scene in the sixth season.

Nairn, working as a KFC employee is watching the clock get closer to noon – lunchtime is coming. Suddenly, like the White Walkers in GOT, a hoard of hungry business people flood through KFC’s doors asking Nairn quickly for “Chicken with fries.”

One after another, they all order chicken with fries, and Nairn always repeats the order back. He appears to short circuit and begins to say “chicken with fries” over and over again.

“Chicken with fries” turns to “chickenwitfries” to “chickenwifries” to “chicken with rice.” It’s all he now knows to say.

In the GOT scene, it is revealed that Hodor’s name and the repeated phrase comes from the last command the faithful servant is given – of course, there’s some time-travel that makes this possible – which is to “hold the door.”

The KFC version understandably has a much happier ending than the original scene. In the commercial, the “chicken with rice” customer gets his meal, while the “chicken with fries” customers will have to wait. In the show, Hodor mets his demise.
