Kevin Spacey’s Sexual Assault Trial Begins With Accuser Anthony Rapp Presenting His Case

Kevin Spacey will be facing the first allegations of sexual assault that came out against him five years ago in October 2017 in Federal court. Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey touched him inappropriately at a party in Manhattan when he would’ve been 14.

The first day of this civil trial is set for Thursday, October 6 at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Rapp is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, and he must prove to the jury that Spacey committed battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress on that night in 1986.

This charge is downgraded from his initial claim of assault, and the case’s Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, explained that this occurred because Rapp apparently brought the claim forward too late.

Court docs explain what Rapp is accusing Spacey of committing. The actor’s full name is Kevin Spacey Fowler and referred to as “Mr. Fowler” in the filing.

“Mr. Rapp claims that Mr. Fowler lifted him up, and that Mr. Fowler’s hand his [sic] grazed Mr. Rapp’s clothed buttocks for seconds as he did so,” the claim reads.

After setting Rapp on a bed, the claim reads, “Mr. Fowler then briefly placed his own clothed body partially beside and partially across Mr. Rapp’s,” and Rapp apparently “wriggled out” and left the party at this moment.

Rapp also clarified in a deposition that Spacey did not attempt to kiss him, undress him or make any sexually suggestive comment during the two-minute encounter, but still felt that the actor would have sought sexual gratification with him if he had remained in the room.

Spacey is attempting an acting comeback at the moment after several years with no work due to these allegations, but they may be derailed due to these ongoing legal situations.

Last year, he was ordered by a judge to pay $31 million to the House of Cards production company MRC, who proved breach of contract after he let go from the show for allegedly assaulting several production workers.
