Kevin Costner Says He Can’t Afford Estranged Wife Christine Baumgartner’s Child Support Demand Of $248,000 Per Month
Kevin Costner’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Christine Baumgartner, was spotted leaving Los Angeles with two of their kids at LAX on Thursday.
The two kids accompanying her were Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13, leaving behind a third child Cayden, 16.
The destination of their trip is unknown but is expected to be short as Baumgartner has a court date in Santa Barbara on Wednesday to discuss her and Costner’s prenuptial agreement.
After initially refusing to leave, Baumgartner has reportedly agreed to leave their $145 million mansion on August 31 if Costner agrees to pay “whatever support and fee orders that the court makes on July 12.”
Costner has reportedly already given Baumgartner $1.2 million in alimony and is willing to pay $30,000 for a rental house and an additional $10,000 for moving costs.
The fashion bag designer has refused to use the $1.2 million that’s reportedly already in her bank account and instead asked the actor to pay her $248,000 per month in child support, claiming that the amount is less than what is needed to maintain their children’s lifestyle.
On top of the monthly child support, Baumgartner also requested that Costner pay their children’s private school tuition, extracurriculars and health-care expenses.
In court documents, Baumgartner claims that Costner wants her to rent a place “without a financial plan” and says rentals would lead to relocations, disrupting their kids’ stability.
“My goal has been and continues to be maintaining as much stability for our children as possible, which includes having the proper resources and plan in place so that can establish a stable home for them, rather than making temporary and inconsistent housing arrangements,” Baumgartner said in a filing.
Costner, seemingly traumatized from his previous divorce from Cindy Silva, who he reportedly paid $80 million, wants to keep as much of his assets as he possibly can.
The Oscar winner reportedly admitted that his income this year will not be the same as last year’s income due to his leaving Yellowstone and will not be able to afford Baumgartner’s financial demands. Baumgartner claims that Costner’s 2022 income was over $19 million.
“I will earn substantially less in 2023 than I did in 2022,” Costner said. “This is because I am no longer under contract for Yellowstone, the principal source of my income last year.”
Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner in May reportedly “blindsiding” the 68-year-old.
