Kelly Dodd, a Real Housewives Of Orange County star, has revealed via an Instagram Story that she and her husband, Rick Leventhal, have contracted Lyme disease.

“So, we tested positive for Lyme disease,” she said as she filmed Leventhal sitting across her. “I’ve never had contact with a tick in my life.”

Though Dodd said this was her first time with the disease, Leventhal revealed he had contracted it twice in the past. He said he took an antibiotic pill which cured both his bouts with Lyme. He said he hopes it will work this time around.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 30,000 cases of Lyme disease are reported in the U.S. yearly. Recent estimates, however, suggest that at least half a million people in the country contract the disease in a year.

In most cases, a tick must be attached to a host for up to 48 hours or more before the disease is transmitted. The CDC reports that there is no evidence that Lyme disease can be contagious from person to person.

Dodd did not say where the couple may have contracted Lyme.
