Ellen DeGeneres like to plays a game with her guests on The Ellen Show called “Celebrity Confessions.”
This week, singer Kelly Clarkson was the lucky contestant. For $10,000 to be donated to the celebrity’s charity of choice, the guest must reveal a secret that the public doesn’t know. Clarkson took her time deciding, and even quipped, “there’s a couple I could tell you backstage for the ten grand for breast cancer but I can’t tell the world.”
She settled on a story about a terrible date she went on from when she was the 18. The singer had been pursued by a man for a date, and finally agreed. “And he was 5’2” and I’m 5’3 1/2” and I was like, ‘Whatever, I obviously went out with you so it didn’t bother me,’” the singer began. “But he proceeded to talk about his height for, like, a solid hour. I withstood an hour!”
At that point the story didn’t seem so much a confession but rather an outing of the man. However, Clarkson then revealed the worst part: “I went to the bathroom and I left.” The crowd gasped and laughed. “I’m going straight to hell, I’m aware,” she concluded.
The singer and Ellen enjoyed a back and forth about the experience, at the end of which Clarkson asked if she still earned the money for charity, and Ellen declared, “now you owe me.”
Clarkson is one of my celebrities who have taken part in silly games and gags on the 14th season of the comedian’s show, including Britney Spears and First Lady Michelle Obama.
