Kelly Clarkson announced that she is pregnant with her first child with her new husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Clarkson announced the happy news on Twitter Tuesday evening, calling her pregnancy the “best early Christmas present ever.”
The newlywed pop star made it no secret she and her husband were trying to get pregnant. In a radio interview in October, Clarkson had declared that all she wanted for Christmas was to be pregnant. And during her Nov. 11 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote her new Christmas album Wrapped in Red, Clarkson spoke openly about her desire to expand her family right away.
“We’re trying, trying, trying,” Clarkson admitted.
Host Jay Leno tried to trick Clarkson into making an announcement on his show, but Clarkson played it close to the vest, saying, “We are not announcing anything right now.”
While no announcements were made, Clarkson revealed that she and her husband were trying “like rabbits” and that she wants a big family.
“I wanna little baby with little feet and I just wanna bite ‘em,” Clarkson said, laughing.
Clarkson and Blackstock were married in late October in a private ceremony, after ditching their elaborate wedding plans. On Nov. 16, Clarkson had to cancel a concert in Buffalo, N.Y., due to “illness,” which may have been a clue to her impending announcment.
This is the first child for Clarkson and the third for Blackstock, who is father to two children, Savannah and Seth from a previous marriage.
Celeb friends have been sending the expecting couple congratulatory messages via Twitter, such as Ellen DeGeneres and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
