Kelly Clarkson announced she’s going to throw her wedding plans goodbye and elope with fiancé Brandon Blackstock.

Just one day after declaring to Ryan Seacrest that she’s “so over” the wedding planning, Clarkson revealed that she is canceling her big wedding plans.

“We are just so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions,” Clarkson told People on Wednesday.

Clarkson has always said she wasn’t one for wedding planning. Even before Blackstock had officially popped the question, Clarkson declared that she thought she might elope.

“Honestly, I’ve never been the girl to plan a wedding. We will totally, probably elope,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in November.

Reba McEntire, Blackstock’s stepmother, also said she wouldn’t be surprised if the happy couple eloped.

“[Clarkson] said a while back, ‘Don’t be surprised if we elope!’ And I said, ‘I will not be surprised!’” McEntire told Us Weekly just days after Clarkson announced her engagement.

In addition to Clarkson’s dislike of the neverending wedding planning, the singer sighted busy schedules as another reason to elope.

“Then honestly the planning – I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now. We have two kids who just started school. We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]’s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He’s flying everywhere,” Clarkson said.

Though it seems like the couple has definitely decided against a big wedding, Clarkson revealed that the couple would still take the time to celebrate with friends and family and have a party instead of a ceremony for all of their guests.

“Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special,’” Clarkson explained.

The pair have also already broken the news to their expected guests by sending out an engagement photo with the message, “Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister,” according to People.

Clarkson did not comment on when exactly she plans on eloping with Blackstock, but her wedding was originally set to take place in October.
