Katy Perry presented Dolly Parton with the Tex Ritter Award at the ACM Awards – and then went on to perform a medley of songs with the country music legend.

Parton won the Tex Ritter Award for her TV movie Coat of Many Colors. Before handing Parton her award, Perry said of her longtime idol, “I recently tweeted that I was but just one tiny sequin on Dolly Parton’s gown. I think I’ll say, though, maybe we’re kind of cut from the same lamé because her grandpa was a preacher, my father’s a preacher; we both grew up singin’ and playin’ guitar in church; and we’re both known for some of the biggest songs in our fields.”

When Parton  accepted the trophy, she said, “I don’t think I’m all that, but I appreciate your standing ovation. This is such a great honor, and I would like to the thank the Academy of Country Music for this award.”

Taking the stage together, Perry and Parton performed an energetic medley that included Parton’s past hits “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5.”

“lil bit country, lil bit pop! #outdreamingmydreamsonebyone #ILYSMDolly,” Perry captioned a picture of the two performing their duet on Instagram.
