It was supposed to be her first public appearance since her hubby of fourteen months, Russell Brand, 36, filed for divorce on December 30, 2011, but now it looks like pop star Katy Perry, 27, will not be attending Wednesday's People's Choice Awards, despite her seven nominations.
Though she didn't reveal the reason behind her change in plans when she posted the info on Twitter, many suspect that her absence is divorce-related. "Unfortunately," she tweeted, "I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS."
The news comes after Perry spent some time refraining from social media, using Twitter earlier this week to remind her fans not to believe everything they hear. "I want to be clear," she posted, "that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family."
At the same time, however, she thanked her fans for their continued support of her. "I'm so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again."
While Perry is resisting television appearances, Brand will soon come to the small screen, hosting a late-night comedy show on FX, reports CBS News.

I don't blame her for wanting to stay low, honestly.
