Katrina Pierson, Tea Party activist and former Ted Cruz supporter, was reportedly hired last week as the new spokeswoman for the Donald Trump campaign.
Pierson — a former Cruz supporter who stood with the Texas senator onstage the night of his election in 2012 — will now be supporting Trump’s campaign.
Cruz campaign spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said the Texas senator “considers Katrina a friend [and] will always be grateful for her dedication and hard work to get him elected.”
However, other Cruz loyalists believe the activist is more interested in self-promotion to start her own fashion line, rather than the work of political organizing, and say there were no plans from Cruz’s camp to bring her on board his presidential run.
Pierson dismissed the criticism as “sour grapes,” but agreed that Trump suits her better.
“This is a nontraditional campaign,” the activist said. “I can be a little bit more who I am. That’s what I mean when I say it’s like a perfect fit.”
“He’s sort of not politically correct. He sort of calls it like he sees it. I’m kind of that way, too,” Pierson added.
Pierson remarked that as a Trump staffer she will continue to do what she has been doing for the past several months for free: touting the businessman’s message on television and social media.
