Kathy Griffin Laments Andy Cohen & Anderson Cooper’s Treatment Of Her After Controversial Photo

Comedian Kathy Griffin revealed that she has felt abandoned by her friends ever since her infamous 2017 photograph with a bloodied mask likened to the severed head of the former president.

While Griffin’s photo was intended to display her intense dislike for the former president, in response to the photograph, the Department of Justice investigated Griffin, and she was added to the no-fly list, an Interpol criminal list and an international terrorist watchlist.

After authorities became concerned and Griffin apologized, her lawyer clarified, “Like many edgy works of artistic expression, the photo could be interpreted differently. But Griffin never imagined that it could be misinterpreted as a threat of violence… That was never what she intended. She has never threatened or committed an act of violence against anyone.”

Griffin shared in her interview with Entertainment Weekly that her friendship with Bravo’s Andy Cohen and CNN’s Anderson Cooper has suffered a harsh blow. She likened the end of her friendship with the duo to being “thrown away like a piece of trash” and commented, “Nobody goes up to Anderson and goes, ‘How could you have done that to Kathy?’ Nobody goes up to Andy and goes, ‘Andy, how could you do that to one of the stars of your network?’ Nobody asks them, ever.”

Griffin said that she has not received an apology from any friends who cut her off after the incident.

“Not from one single person,” she said. “Not my friends who deserted me, not industry people, not people I’ve known for years and showed up to every one of their charity events or did stand-up for free.”

In 2018, Griffin spoke to uInterview exclusively about the incident

When the infamous photo came out of her holding a mask with ketchup, which looked like a bloody severed head, she got advice from another comedian on how to handle the reaction from everyone. “I got a great call from Jim Carrey, and I was sobbing. I said, ‘Is it over? You can tell me I’m a big girl,’ Griffin says. “He said, ‘Kathy, you have a story that any comedian would give their right arm for. You’re the most famous comedian in the world today, use it'” and that’s exactly what she plans to do.
