Kanye West stole the spotlight from designer Anne Bowen at New York Fashion Week, scheduling a show at the same time and place as her debut was supposed to take place.
Bowen, who has spent the last year developing her collection, was scheduled to make her debut at NYFW on Wednesday, but was forced to move her showing to Thursday after Kanye spontaneously decided to schedule a show for his X Adidas Originals Collection on the same day.
In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily Bowen stated her frustration with West’s actions. “We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial labor – and commitment – cost to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks. We went through all the proper channels to make this a reality. And just yesterday, we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time on the same date as ours.”
Bowen seemed more philosophical in a later interview. “How do you compete with him?” Bowen said to Pix 11. “Every celebrity, every competitor, every global press is going to want to be at that show whether they like him or not, it doesn’t matter, they want to know what he’s doing.”
The interruption of Bowen’s scheduled slot is not all bad, though, as she has received quite a lot of press as a result of Kanye’s stunt, which will give her more attention than she may otherwise have received.
