Kanye West was the musical guest for the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this weekend, and in typical West fashion, he went on an impassioned, controversial rant after the show ended.
The 41-year-old rapper — whose latest album Ye was released in June — gave an anti-Democrat and pro-President Donald Trump speech after the end credits of Saturday’s episode of the sketch comedy series rolled. Comedian Chris Rock — who was sitting in the audience — recorded the off-air speech, which garnered little applause and was met with several boos, and posted it to his Instagram story.
“The blacks want always Democrats,” West said, donning a “Make America Great Again” cap. “You know it’s like the plan they did, to take the fathers out the home and put them on welfare. Does anybody know about that? That’s a Democratic plan.”
He continued: “There’s so many times I talk to a white person and they say, ‘How could you like Trump, he’s racist?’” said West, who was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. “Well, if I was concerned about racism, I would’ve moved out of America a long time ago.”

Rock is heard laughing at some of West’s remarks. The rapper changed his name to Ye ahead of his SNL appearance.
On Sunday morning, West tweeted he “had so much fun on SNL,” and claimed creator Lorne Michaels wanted him to return soon as a host.
Trump also used Twitter on Sunday to praise West for his speech and to slam SNL.
West performed “I Love It” and “We Got Love” on Saturday, and dressed up as a water bottle alongside fellow rapper Lil Pump for the former song.
West, who opened up earlier this year about being bipolar, is a renown Trump supporter who made similar remarks about black Americans and Democrats on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in August. The rapper said he felt like he and many other African-Americans are often pressured to align themselves with liberal opinions.
In May, West also stirred up controversy after storming the TMZ newsroom and saying he believed 400 years of slavery “was a choice.” He later apologized in a tearful radio interview, but on Sunday he appeared to revisit this issue by tweeting a photo of himself with a “MAGA” hat and writing:
“We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs,” West tweeted. “We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love.”
He continued in a separate tweet: “The 13th Amendment is slavery in disguise. Meaning it never ended. We are the solution that heals.”
Unsurprisingly, many liberal celebrities and other Twitter users quickly responded to West’s comments with bewilderment, confusion and disgust.
Lana Del Rey and Chris Evans were among the many people who blasted West.
Del Rey called out the rapper for being a “narcissist” and compared him to Trump.
“There’s nothing more maddening than debating someone who doesn’t know history, doesn’t read books, and frames their myopia as virtue,” Evans wrote while retweeting West. “The level of unapologetic conjecture I’ve encountered lately isn’t just frustrating, it’s retrogressive, unprecedented and absolutely terrifying.”
Producer Swizz Beatz also called out West in an Instagram video and responded to the rapper’s claim that he was bullied backstage on SNL for wearing a “MAGA” hat.
“Ain’t nobody bullying you, we love you,” Swizz Beatz said. “But you gotta stop that s—, that s— ain’t right.”
