Kanye West can’t seem to stop talking about Taylor Swift, as he once again mentioned his ongoing drama with the singer during a show in the Philippines this week.

During his concert at the Paradise International Music Festival in Manila, West brought up the incident with Swift that started it all – his stage-crashing, mic-stealing stunt at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. It was “the beginning of the end of my life,” West told the crowd, though he stood by his opinion – which he feels was shared by many – that Beyonce should have bested Swift for the Best Female Video award. He was merely saying “what everybody else was thinking,” he said.

In recent years, West and Swift seemed to have developed something of a friendship, or at least had developed respect one another’s respective talents. West apparently thought that they were chummy enough that he could joke about making her famous because of the VMA incident and having sex with her in a new single called “Famous.”

“This is the song that broke the writer’s block for me, because it’s something I wanted to say so bad that they told me I couldn’t say,” West told the crowd in Manila, for whom he played “Famous” twice. “If I get in trouble for saying the truth, what’s being said the rest of the time? And I had to fight every day of my life, with the whole world turned against me, for saying out loud what everyone else felt. But that’s the job of an artist, of a true artist: not to be controlled by their finances, not to be controlled by perceptions, but only to be controlled by their truth.”

West’s The Life Of Pablo album, which features “Famous,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. It is the first album to top the charts via mostly streaming.
