Justin Lowe, the founding guitarist of metalcore band After the Burial, was found dead near the St. Croix River in Minnesota. He was 32.
A hiker found Lowe’s body beneath the Arcola High Bridge on Tuesday, according to the New Richmond News. The musician’s injuries were reportedly consistent with a fall, and no foul play is suspected. Lowe’s car had been found parked in a nearby lot.
Lowe had been missing since July 18, leading to an extensive search by National Parks services and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as local authorities.
Lowe quit After the Burial last month in a disconcerting Facebook message in which he claimed that there were conspiracies at work against him. He believed that members of the band, as well as family members, friends and others were drugging him and attempting to steal information from his laptop, and had made copies of his keys.
“I’ve been set up guys by something more powerful than law enforcement, and it’s bad,” Lowe had said in his Facebook post. “S–t is about to hit the fan on an epic scale, and the only thing I can do now is tell you as much of my side while I still can.”
After Lowe’s letter, After the Burial released a statement on the band’s official Facebook page to shed some light on the situation, explaining that Lowe had recently disappeared for a day and that he was likely suffering from some mental health issues.
“Our dear friend, our brother onstage and off, has fallen into a very broken state of mind. A state that, despite our continued efforts, we have been powerless to get him out of,” the band wrote. “Early yesterday after he made the post, he went missing for the entire day.[…] Fortunately, he’s back home now. He’s safe and in the care of his family.”
“Justin is ill, and right now he needs more than ever to be shown that the world is not against him,” the statement continued. “He needs support and love from everyone, and to know that we only want what’s best for him. We will continue to support him and his family as best we can through this tough time.”
After the Burial has yet to comment on Lowe’s passing.
