'Justice League' Movie Confirmed, To Be Directed By Zack Snyder

Warner Bros. announced that a Justice League movie is in the works and will be directed by Man of Steel director Zack Snyder.

'Justice League' Movie In Development

Rumors of a Justice League movie have been running wild ever since it was announced that Warner Bros. would be producing a reboot of Superman, and a Justice League movie became expected after Marvel’s massive success with The Avengers (2012). The odds of a Justice League movie becoming a reality went up significantly when it was announced that Batman would be featured in the sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel, dubbed Superman vs. Batman. Now the speculation can finally be put to rest.

“It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs. Batman will lead into Justice League,” revealed Warner Bros. President of Worldwide Production Greg Silverman.

Silverman did not reveal which superheroes would be included in the Justice League film, but it’s safe to assume that the film will include Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. This means that cast members Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) could reprise their Batman vs. Superman roles in the Justice League movie.

Other “Justice League” members have had recent incarnations on the screen. Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan in Green Lantern (2011), and Stephen Amell is currently starring as Green Arrow in television’s Arrow, which also features Black Canary (Caity Lotz) and introduced the Flash (Grant Gustin) in season 2. It is unlikely that the Justice League film will maintain continuity with either of these projects. And rumors suggest that filmmakers are looking to introduce Cyborg as a Justice League character in Batman vs. Superman. In fact, Ray Fisher has reportedly already signed on to play the role.

The script for a potential Justice League film is still in development, so fans should not expect the movie anytime before 2018. The wait for the Man of Steel sequel will not be nearly as long, with the film set for release on May 6, 2016.
