In one of the best collaborations of all time, we’re getting a new film from the director of the incredible stop-motion animated Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas, this time starring Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael-Key as demon brothers in Wendell & Wild.

Peele just dropped a new trailer for the film, which is coming to Netflix.

This classic macabre art style is the signature of the legendary director Henry Selick, who hasn’t released a film since Coraline in 2009. It wasn’t for lack of trying, as Selick recently said he had been working on two films for Disney that were canceled after other stop-motion animations made middling box-office returns.

Selick first pitched this film to Peele while he was establishing his company Monkeypaw productions, and the first meeting even took place before Peele had shot his acclaimed debut, Get Out. They eventually secured support from Netflix which kept the project alive for many difficult years.

Wendell & Wild was first announced back in November 2015, and there wasn’t so much as a peep about it until this year. Along with some creative conflicts with Netflix, W&W was further derailed by the quarantines of the COVID-19 pandemic because the stop-motion frames all have to be shot individually in studio.

Along with reuniting Peele & Key after their Comedy Central sketch series and action-comedy film Keanu, other cast members of Wendell & Wild are Lyric Ross as the young protagonist Kat Elliott, Angela Bassett, James Hong and Tamara Smart.

Wendell & Wild is streaming on Netflix beginning October 28.
