Jon Stewart Defends Samantha Bee’s Controversial Remarks About Ivanka Trump

Jon Stewart defends Samantha Bee after she apologized for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c–t” on her show Full Frontalwhich caused a lot of controversy.

Last week, Bee experienced major backlash after commenting on Ivanka’s post of her with her son, which was seen as a bit tone-deaf due to the fact it was shared following the news that there were over 1,500 immigrant children that were being held by the government missing. Bee called out the First Daughter saying, “Let me just say, one mother to another, do something about you dad’s immigration practices you feckless c–t!”

The morning after the segment aired, Bee released an apology to both Trump and her viewers “for using an expletive on [her] show to describe her last night.”

“It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” she added.

TBS also released an apology stating that they should not have approved the segment to be aired. “Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” the network said. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”

Stewart defended Bee, his longest running correspondent when he hosted The Daily Show, following tweets from President Donald Trump saying that her “low ratings show” should be cancelled.

Stewart believes that it all just a “game” that the political right plays. He said at the Clusterfest comedy festival that there’s nothing anyone can do to “make them give up this ‘We’re the real victims’ game.’ It’s a game, it’s a strategy, and it’s working.”

“They don’t give a s–t about the word c–t,” he added.

He said there is a double standard between the two political parties. “Please understand that a lot of what the right does, and it’s maybe their greatest genius, is they’ve created a code of conduct that they police, that they themselves don’t have to, in any way, abide,” Stewart said.

Stewart also noted there’s nothing people can do to “make them give up this ‘We’re the real victims’ game,” referring to the right.
