Depp’s injury did not occur during filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, occurring off set. Production will likely be “minimally impacted” by the injury, an insider told TheWrap. A spokesperson for Disney confirmed the injury.
Dead Men Tell No Tales, which began shooting in February, should wrap sometime this summer. The film, directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, is still slated to hit theaters July 7, 2017.
“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him,” Walt Disney Pictures told E! News in a statement last month of the picture. “Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”
In addition to Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will also star Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Kevin R. McNally and Stephen Graham.
