Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard recorded a video message to apologize for breaking Australia’s biosecurity laws, and to encourage others not to make that same error in judgement.
Sitting side by side, Heard and Depp earnestly voiced their appreciation for Australia and respect for the laws that the country has to protect its unique beauty. “Australia is a wonderful island, with a treasure trove of unique plants, animals and people,” said Heard
“It has to be protected,” Depp chimed in.
Heard went on, “Australia is free of many pests and diseases that are commonplace around the world. That is why Australia has to have such strong biosecurity laws.”
“And Australians are just as unique, both warm and direct. When you disrespect Australian law they will tell you firmly,” Depp added.
“I am truly sorry that Pistol and Boo were not declared,” Heard apologized. “Protecting Australia is important.”
In conclusion, Depp stated, “Declare everything when you enter Australia.”
Last year, Heard was charged with illegally bringing her and Depp’s Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo into Australia. The actress faced a maximum sentencing of 10 years behind bars and a $75,000 fine for the illegal import of animals, reported CNN. In a plea deal, Heard pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of providing false immigration documentation. For the offense, the magistrate gave Heard a one-month good behavior bond. If she breaks the bond, she will be fined roughly $750.
