Johnny Depp Facing Lawsuit After Allegedly Punching Crew Member While Drunk On ‘City Of Lies’ Film Set

Johnny Depp is facing a lawsuit for allegedly hitting a crew member on the set of his forthcoming movie in Los Angeles.

On Friday, location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks filed the lawsuit, which also accuses the film’s producers and director for unspecified damages. Brooks claims Depp, 55, “reeked of alcohol” when he went on a profanity-laced rant against Brooks and punched him twice in the ribs after the location manager attempted to end shooting for the day. Brooks also alleged in the lawsuit that Oscar-nominee Depp took drugs while on set.

The incident allegedly occurred in April 2017 on the set of City of Lies, Depp’s new movie set for release on September 7. In the film, the actor plays a Los Angeles Police Department detective who investigated the 1997 murder of infamous rapper The Notorious B.I.G, who was also known as “Biggie Smalls” or by his birth name, Christopher Wallace. The murder of another rapper, Tupac Shakur, is also dealt with in the film.

Brooks had reportedly explained to the film’s director Brad Furman at the time of the incident that shooting near the Barclay Hotel in L.A. needed to end for the evening due to reasons involving legal permits. Brooks then informed Depp of this personally — after Furman asked him to do so — and the actor, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated, verbally and physically attacked him and then allegedly screamed: “I will give you one hundred thousand dollars to punch me in the face right now!”

This is the latest in a series of legal issues Depp has become engulfed in over the last few years. The star of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is also reportedly involved in a legal fight with his former managers and is claiming his attorneys stole millions of dollars from him.

In January 2017, Depp divorced actress Amber Heard after photos showing her badly bruised surfaced and domestic violence allegations surrounded Depp. The actor is also set to play evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Harry Potter prequel film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald , a sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Depp’s casting in this film — which is due for a November 16 release — sparked much controversy because of the allegations, and producer/screenwriter J.K. Rowling responded to the backlash.
