After Jimmy Kimmel‘s diss towards Ted Cruz, likening the U.S. senator to a “blobfish,” Cruz formerly challenged the TV show host to a basketball game at Texas Southern University.

“When Ted arrived at the Toyota Center, some of the fans mistakenly thought it was Grandpa Munster Bobblehead Night,” Kimmel said last month, referencing Cruz’s appearance at a Houston Rockets basketball game. “I mean, look at him. He looks, and I’m not joking here, he looks like a blobfish.”

On May 30, Cruz answered to Kimmel’s comment via Twitter, adding that the winner of their friendly basketball game would donate to a charity.

“.@jimmykimmel All right, Big Guy…you talk a good game,” Cruz tweeted. “You besmirched my support for the @HoustonRockets. So let’s settle this man-to-man: one-on-one, hoops (or “ring-ball,” if you prefer). The loser gives $5k to the (non-political) charity of the winner’s choice.”

Ultimately, Cruz beat the comedian 11-9.

Cruz and Kimmel both ended up donating $10,000 to charities Generation One, a Houston-based organization that works to end the cycle of poverty and Texas Children’s, a nonprofit hospital.

Prior to the game, Cruz and Kimmel fired trash talk at one another.

Reportedly, Kimmel asked Cruz, “Did you spend more time this week practicing basketball than trying to get those kids out of that detention center?”

The two, on opposite sides of the political spectrum, did try to fire some political insults, but the crowd wasn’t always tolerant. During one attempt, an audience member shouted, “Play ball!”

Apparently, the game wasn’t too fast-paced or thrilling. The Houston Chronicle called the game “a slow-motion car-crash of half-court basketball.” On behalf of both players, “We apologize to the game of basketball.”
