On Sunday night at the 96th Academy Awards, host Jimmy Kimmel clapped back at former President Donald Trump. Trump bashed Kimmel, who has hosted the Oscars for four years, on social media.

“Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous.”

Trump also called out the Oscars for being “politically correct,” a possible reference to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

Jonathan Glazer, director of The Zone of Interest spoke about the ongoing crisis in the Middle East in his Oscar acceptance speech. Mstyslav Chernov, director of the documentary 20 Days in Mariupol, addressed Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Billie Eilish and Mark Ruffalo wore red pins to show their support for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Before introducing Al Pacino to the stage, Kimmel fired back at Trump and referenced Trump’s criminal record.

“Blah, blah, blah . . . Ok, now, see if you can guess which former president just posted that on TruthSocial. Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump,” Kimmel said. “Thank you for watching, I’m surprised you’re still – isn’t it past your jail time?”

Throughout the ceremony, Kimmel dug at other notable figures, including Robert Downey Jr., bringing up his past drug abuse despite Downey Jr.’s negative reaction.
