There have been rumors that Dupri had cheated on Jackson in the past, but he had always sidestepped the rumors while discussing the split before then. In the past, Dupri has cited distance as the main factor of their split in the past, as he was based in his hometown of Atlanta and she in Malibu throughout their entire relationship.
In the documentary, however, Dupri confessed. that he had been “reckless” during their relationship.
“One of the weird things about dating Janet is that dating Janet attracts other women,” Dupri began his response. “Girls wanted to talk to me because I was dating her, which was really weird… and uh, just you know, I was a man.”
In Jackson’s interview, she brought up another contributing factor to their split, namely Dupri’s ambition and lack of time for anything but work. “I had heard he was cheating. But there were other things… I needed more than he was giving me. He was a workaholic and he was constantly working,” Jackson said, “I would say that work was his girlfriend.”
All four parts of the Janet Jackson docuseries can be viewed on Lifetime. In the series, she discusses her storied life and career, rocky relationship with brother Michael Jackson, and ups and downs of being raised in a family of musical stars.
