Late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s long-time lawyer, Darren Indyke, and accountant, Richard Khan, could benefit substantially from a $112 million tax refund now that the majority of Epstein’s victims have received settlements.

Epstein’s estate was worth $600 million when he killed himself in August 2019, locked up at the time and awaiting trial for sex trafficking. After almost 200 women and girls abused by Epstein received $164 million, in addition to a long list of other large debts and claims, Epstein’s estate dropped to a value of $40 million.

However, in September, the estate received a $112 million refund from the IRS, which brought its worth up to $145 million; the tax refund stemmed from the estate’s $190 million payment to the IRS in July 2020. Tax experts have confirmed that it is not unusual for the IRS to refund money to a wealthy estate, particularly if executors overvalued its properties and overestimated the degree of debt.

As most of the large claims against the estate have been settled, the newfound cash is not expected to go to Epstein’s victims, but rather the assets will be moved into a trust before being distributed to those named as beneficiaries. Other than Khan and Indyke, Epstein’s girlfriend, Karyna Shuliak, is the only other known beneficiary.

Indyke and Khan have both been accused of assisting Epstein in his abuse, and their possible financial gain has people furious. One of Epstein’s victims, Marijke Chartouni, said, “I think that it is morally objectionable for anyone other than a victim to benefit from acts of injustice or wrongdoing… Victims continue to suffer.”

Epstein was accused of operating a sex-trafficking ring for decades, in which he sexually abused young women and offered them to other abusive men. His helper, Ghislaine Maxwell, who procured the women and girls for Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year sentence.

A multitude of A-listers were known to have had a private relationship with Epstein, including Donald Trump, Prince Andrew and Bill Gates.
