Jay-Z & Sean Combs Named In Civil Lawsuit Alleging Sexual Assault Of A 13-year-Old Girl
Hip-hop moguls Jay-Z and Sean Combs have been accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a VMAs afterparty in New York City over two decades ago, according to a newly refiled civil lawsuit. The plaintiff, identified only as “Jane Doe,” alleges the assault occurred in September 2000 after the Video Music Awards. She claimed that both men attacked her while an unnamed female celebrity witnessed the incident.
The complaint was originally filed in October against Combs but was amended on Sunday to include Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter. The plaintiff alleges she became disoriented after consuming a drink at the party and sought to rest in a bedroom, where the assault allegedly occurred. The lawsuit claims that Combs and Carter entered the room and proceeded to assault her despite her incapacitated state.
Jay-Z issued a strong denial late Sunday, accusing the plaintiff’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, of attempting to extort him with a “blackmail attempt” disguised as a demand letter.
“No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion,” Carter said in a statement. He also called for a criminal complaint to be filed if the allegations were genuine, stating, “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away.”
Carter expressed concern for his family, referencing the potential impact the allegations could have on his children. “My only heartbreak is for my family,” he said. “My wife and I will have to sit our children down… and explain the cruelty and greed of people.”
Combs’ legal team also denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit a “shameless publicity stunt.” Combs, who is currently in federal custody awaiting trial on separate sex-trafficking charges, has pleaded not guilty to those accusations. His lawyers maintain his innocence, stating, “In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone.”
This lawsuit adds to the mounting legal battles facing Combs, who is set to face federal sex-trafficking charges in May.
