Singer-turned-actor Jared Leto has signed on to play Andy Warhol in a biopic he is producing.
The film will be based off of Victor Bockris‘s biography of the artist, Warhol: The Biography, which was released in 1989, two years after the artist’s death.
Leto and Michael De Luca, who produced such films as The Social Network and Captain Phillips, will produce, and Sopranos writer Terence Winter has come on board as the head writer. The timeline for the film has not yet been released.
The actor’s interest in Warhol goes years back. Leto attended multiple art schools, including New York City’s School of Visual Arts where he studied photography and painting. “I had thousands of negatives that I processed myself,” he said. “I would go in the darkroom and come out, like, eight hours later – where did the day go? I loved the darkroom.”
Leto is currently working on an untitled Blade Runner sequel with director Denis Villeneuve. See a discussion on the film below.
