Janelle Monae is helping those in need this holiday season.
The 35-year-old singer and actress volunteered at the Wondalunch Food Giveaway event in Los Angeles over the weekend. Monae was joined by actress Yara Shahidi and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-California) to hand out essential items, consisting of grocery boxes, diapers, baby supplies, masks, prepared meals and more to families in need.
Before the start of the event, Monae tweeted,” SPECIAL THANK YOU to our partners @SJLI_CA, @foreverytable, Good + Foundation, Black Kids Who Care, @ISAIAHORG, @ywca_gla, Cali Fresh + @TheLeelaProject.”
Monae also hosted a Wondalunch Food Giveaway in the summer where she distributed over 10,000 lunches to families with school-aged children in Inglewood, California.
Monae will be headlining Netflix’s new virtual event, The Prom: Tonight Belongs To You, to promote their new movie musical The Prom. The event will feature Monae with a special headlining performance, along with a set from DJ Gatlantis. Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness will host.
The event is also featured to show appearances from members of the cast – Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Keegan-Micheal Key, Andrew Rannells, Ariana DeBose, Jo Ellen Pellman, Kerry Washington and more.
You can live stream the event on Netflix’s YouTube channel now.
