Jamie Lynn Spears Was Told To Hide Pregnancy From Sister Britney Spears

In her new book, Things I Should Have Said, Jamie Lynn Spears writes about her family and how tense it was during her first pregnancy.

Spears recounts the struggles and pressure she faced when at 16 years old she became pregnant with her daughter, Maddie. At the time in 2001, she was the star of the popular Nickelodeon show, Zoey 101. The show ended after the news of Spears’ being pregnant broke.

Her family discouraged the singer and actress from becoming a young mother.

“One person after another –  and there were many – came to my room trying to convince me that having a baby at this point of my life was terrible,” she wrote. The topic of termination was mentioned to Spears as an option.

Spears’ life was now being highly monitored by her family. To her, home “felt like a prison without a smartphone or connection to the outside world. My team believed everyone outside of their inner circle was a potential threat,” she writes. “They went so far as hiding my pregnancy from my sister, claiming, ‘It’s too risky to tell Britney about the baby.’ I needed her more than ever and she wasn’t able [to] help me in my most vulnerable time.”

Spears writes about how Britney’s “condition” was “spiraling into something more concerning.” Around this time Britney Spears entered her now-infamous conservatorship.

Spears writes, “They were concerned her instability at that time made her untrustworthy. I went along with what my team told me to do because I was a minor and didn’t want to create any more issues. Britney learned of the pregnancy when the article was released. To this day, the hurt of not being able to tell my sister myself lingers.”

Spears announced the book back in October and was driven to start writing after her daughter Maddie had a near-fatal ATV accident in 2017 when she was 13 years old.

“I owe it to myself, my younger self, and to my daughters to be an example that you should never edit yourself or your truth to please anyone else,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing her new book. “I know I still have ALOT of learning to do, but I feel like finishing this book gave me closure on this ’30 year long’ chapter of my life, and hopefully helps anyone else out there who forgot their worth, lost their voice, or is trying to break an unhealthy cycle in their life.”

Things I Should Have Said is set to be released on January 18, 2022.

Britney recently gained attention by posting pictures of her bare butt on social media.
