J.K. Rowling To Publish Novels For Grown-Ups
It has been announced that J.K. Rowling, the celebrated British author of the epic Harry Potter series, will soon graduate from young adult fiction to writing novels for adults.
Though Rowling's first title in the genre has not yet been revealed, new publishing company Little, Brown plans to release the book in the U.S. and Britain simultaneously, at some as-yet-undisclosed future date, according to The L.A. Times.
"Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world," Rowling said in a statement. "The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life."
It also goes without saying that Rowling's Harry Potter fans have grown up with her. It was 1997 that the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, came out to be devoured by eager young readers across the globe. Now, 15 years later, the series has sold more than 450 million copies and been translated into 74 languages.
More details about Rowling's new novel will be released later in the year, reports USA Today.
