Jillian Michaels reportedly wants to quit – for the second time – her job as a trainer on The Biggest Loser.
Michaels has apparently become disenchanted with the way in which the reality TV show encourages its contestants to lose weight. In light of the controversy surrounding Rachel Frederickson’s shockingly skinny appearance on last season’s finale, Michaels has apparently had enough.
"She is deeply concerned about the direction the show has been taking," a source told People magazine. "She is turned off by the mean-spirited story lines and poor care of the contestants."
"They asked her to come back to boost the ratings and they needed her, but the Rachel thing shook her up," the source added. "Her feeling is that there isn't proper attention paid to the contestants' health or wellness."
Michaels, who looked stunned when Frederickson walked out onto the Biggest Loser stage back in February, is also concerned about the image the show has created for her. Her shtick on the show basically makes her the Simon Cowell of the weight-loss world. She’s harsh, demanding and not entirely positive – although the results she gets are nothing short of commendable.
"The show uses her as the bad guy, and anyone who knows Jillian knows she's not the bad guy at all,” the insider told People. “She's not the negative person they portray her as.She wants to be in a place where she has more respect." Michaels, who’s also a spokesperson for Curves, is currently traveling the country on her Maximize Your Life Tour.
