Openly political actor George Clooney is reportedly considering making a bid to become the next governor of California.

George Clooney Running For Governor?

Clooney, 53, has been a political activist for a number of years in which he’s made countless contacts – including President Barack Obama. Obama is just one of many Democratic party leaders that want Clooney to pursue his political ambitions and launch a gubernatorial campaign for the 2018 election in California, Clooney’s friends told the Mirror.

“George is hugely popular with the Democrats and where better a place to put him than as the Governor of California the home of Hollywood,” a friend told the Sunday Mirror. “It has always been a huge stronghold for the party and one that has a proven record for getting politicians in to the Oval office.”

Earlier this year, Clooney proposed to UK-based lawyer Amal Alamuddin, whom he is expected to marry in Italy in September. In addition to working as a human rights lawyer, Alamuddin is a special envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Being with Alamuddin is thought to be a factor that would boost Clooney’s ability to successfully seek office.

“Now that Amal is by his side it has boosted his credentials even higher,” the friend added. “She is as far removed as some of the girls he has previously dated and possesses incredible intelligence that bodes well if she ever does become First Lady.”

Throughout his career as an actor, Clooney has never been shy about sharing his liberal convictions. “I'm confused when that became a bad word,” Clooney told Larry King after telling him he considered himself a liberal. I think what happened over a period of time probably in the late 1980s when it became sort of a political tool.”

“The liberal movement morally, you know, has stood on the right side of an awful lot of issues,” Clooney added. “We thought that blacks should be allowed to sit at the front of the bus and women should be able to vote, McCarthy was wrong, Vietnam was a mistake.”

Clooney has yet to comment on reports regarding his political aspirations.
