Influencer Theresa Cachuela Fatally Shot In Front Of Daughter By Estranged Husband In Honolulu Murder-Suicide

An Instagram influencer was shot and killed in the presence of her 11-year-old daughter by her estranged husband, who subsequently took his own life.

The victim, identified as Theresa Cachuela, 33, lost her life at a shopping center in Honolulu on Friday. Authorities disclosed that Theresa and her daughter were en route to the bank when her estranged husband, Jason Calchuela, 44, approached them and opened fire, which resulted in her death.

After the shooting, Jason’s lifeless body was found behind a residence.

Legal records indicate that weeks prior to the incident, Cachuela had filed for a temporary restraining order against Jason, which was granted. In her petition, Theresa revealed that Jason had made suicide threats in the presence of their children and had even held a knife to his own neck. The petition further detailed that after a wellness check, Jason had returned to Cachuela’s home and hid in the garage.

Court documents reveal that Cachuela and Jason had agreed upon a one-year protection order, which led to Jason surrendering his firearms as part of the conditions outlined in the order.

Cachuela, known as an Instagram influencer with 20,000 followers, frequently shared posts about her religious beliefs. In light of the loss, her family created a GoFundMe campaign to collect money for her funeral expenses.

In anguish, Cachuela’s mother wrote in the GoFundMe description, “My daughter did not deserve this. She was trying so hard to get help, but the Justice system failed her. We are so devastated with the loss of our beloved Tita.”

She concluded, “We are so thankful for all the love, help, and condolences that has been sent our way during these hard times. May her soul rest in peace and as she’s now in God’s loving arms. We ask for your support. Thank You and God bless you all.”

The GoFundMe campaign has raised over $38,000 in donations so far.
