Idris Elba Poses For Selfie With 007 Himself, Daniel Craig, At 2019 Golden Globes

While at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, Daniel Craig, who has portrayed James Bonds since 2006, had an awkward run-in with Idris Elba, who has been rumored to be next up to carry on the iconic character.

Their run-in was caught in a selfie by Elba, which he shared on his Instagram story. The selfie shows Craig smiling at him as he looks off to the side with a nervous and silly facial expression.

“Awks…..” Elba wrote over the photo, which he also posted on Twitter.

During the Los Angeles award show ceremony, Elba presented awards alongside surprise attendee Taylor Swift. He also got to support his 17-year-old daughter Isan, who served as the Miss Golden Globe Ambassador for the evening. Meanwhile, Craig supported his wife Rachel Weisz, who was nominated for her role in The Favourite.

For years, rumors of Elba taking over the role of James Bond from Craig have swirled around. Especially when Craig announced that he’d be completing his role as the British agent in next winter’s 25th franchise film. Rumors of the Luther star picking up Craig’s role first began during the Sony Pictures leak back in 2014 when an email from senior executive Amy Pascal allegedly revealed that she wanted him to star as the next British agent. Since then, Elba has repeatedly spoken on behalf of the speculation.

Last year in August, while promoting his directional debut, Yardie, when asked if he would take on the role, told a Good Morning Britain reporter, “No.” Earlier that month, he also answered the rumors on Twitter, writing, “Don’t believe the HYPE.”

This year, Elba will star in the big screen adaptation of the musical Cats, which is being written and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Cats will hit theaters on December 20, towards the end of the year. It is based on a book of poetry by T.S. Elliot and is an inspired musical that premiered on Broadway in 1982 and ran for 21 years.
