Ben Ellis, a Nashville teacher who is battling cancer, received a surprise visit from hundreds of students at his home.
Four hundred students turned up at Ellis’ house last week in a show of support for the teacher, who is fighting aggressive cancer. The high school students from Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tenn., played instruments and sang outside on his lawn as he watched from a window.
“It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” Nate Morrow, headmaster at Christ Presbyterian Academy, told ABC News. “He is one of the kindest and intentionally loving people I’ve ever met in my life. I think that’s what really characterizes him. He’s always pursuing other people in wanting to get to know them and love them.”
The video of the students and faculty members outside of Ellis’ home has received more than 20 million views on Facebook, which amazed Morrow.
“I think we were honored that so many people would watch a man receive love from his students. Ben is a dear man and the fact that people want to honor him, we are so grateful,” Morrow said. “We are praying for his family, praying for his kids that are in our hallway everyday and trying to walk through this as a community.”
Ellis has been teaching Latin and Bible Studies courses at Christ Presbyterian since 2008. He was diagnosed with cancer last year and continued to teach while undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
