In an unexpected fusion of politics and pop culture, wrestling icon Hulk Hogan made his RNC debut on Thursday, delivering a passionate endorsement of the former president.
The WWE Hall of Famer, whose real name is Terry Bollea, took center stage at the Milwaukee convention ahead of the former president. Hogan’s appearance marked a stark departure from his long-held stance of political neutrality, which he had reaffirmed just last month.
Sporting his trademark bandanna and a navy blazer, Hogan started by saying he usually stays out of politics. But he said recent events in the country, made him decide to speak up.
“As an entertainer, I try to stay out of politics,” Hogan explained. “But after everything that has happened to our country over the past four years, and everything that happened last weekend, I can no longer stay silent.”
In a move similar to his wrestling days, Hogan took off his jacket to show a political-themed tank top. He then gave a passionate speech, using his well-known catchphrases to support the former president’s campaign.
The wrestler-turned-political-advocate hailed the former president as a “real American hero,” praising his resilience in the face of numerous challenges, including impeachment proceedings and ongoing legal battles.
The former president delivered a somber speech about the failed assassination attempt, followed by his standard fare of political attacks.
In 2020, Hogan settled a lawsuit with a radio DJ about a leaked intimate video tape of him for $110 million.
