Hugh Jackman Continues Hilarious Phony Birthday Feud With Ryan Reynolds
If you didn’t know the backstory of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ birthday messages for one another, you may have found Jackman’s recent video wishing Reynolds a happy birthday pretty bizarre.
The two celebs have been trolling each other (in good fun) with competing messages after a bit with the two of them went viral in 2019.
In the old clip, Jackman takes a jab at Reynolds’ singing ability but is then confronted with a video message onscreen. Reynolds said Jackman’s insult was “in a word, hurtful,” and went on to sing him happy birthday before cussing him out for good measure afterward.
TB to (2019) when Ryan Reynolds suprised Hugh Jackman while he was on stage with a video of him wishing hugh a Happy Birthday…AND even he sang Happy Birthday. ❤️ #HappyBirthdayHughJackman pic.twitter.com/kA81QEZFyf

Given that the video had to be prepared beforehand, this is obviously a staged interaction, but the fun and goofiness of it outweighs the lack of spontaneity. Last year doubled down with a hilarious, though much less complicated, bit to roast Jackman again.
Jackman has since retaliated with a video showing him humming “Happy Birthday” while lighting a candle on a cupcake and kneeling in front of two portraits of Reynolds.
“Now Ryan, I’m making a wish, and it’s your birthday present. And all I wanna say is: I’m the best there is at what I do, and what I do isn’t very nice,” he said.
This was both a dig at Reynolds and a bit of a plug for Jackman’s upcoming appearance in Deadpool 3. Jackman’s quote is a classic Wolverine line that fans are familiar with, reminding those who may have forgotten that he’ll be stepping back into that mutant role alongside Reynolds for the newest Deadpool film.
Deadpool 2 had several X-Men cameos including James McAvoy as Professor X, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and Evan Peters as the super-speedy Quicksilver.
