Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman Dish On Marvel’s First R-Rated Film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ At Seoul Press Event

Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film, Deadpool & Wolverine, took center stage at a July 4 press conference in Seoul, South Korea. Director Shawn Levy and stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds offered insights into the highly anticipated movie.

Jackman, reprising his role as Wolverine, expressed enthusiasm about returning to Seoul for the sixth time. The actor, once named a goodwill ambassador to the city, shared his surprise at playing Wolverine again after a 25-year run with the character. “I never thought I would play this character again. I couldn’t be prouder of the film; it’s the best film with Wolverine in it,” Jackman said.

Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, reflected on the challenging journey of bringing the character to the big screen. He described the decade-long effort to make the first Deadpool film and the subsequent struggle to merge the Deadpool and Wolverine universes for this installment.

Levy emphasized the project’s dream team aspect, noting the iconic status of both characters and actors. Reynolds downplayed such expectations when questioned about the pressure of potentially “saving” Marvel. “We are not here to save Marvel at all. Rather, our objective is to bring joy to millions of audiences worldwide through the film,” he stated.

The press conference addressed concerns about integrating Deadpool‘s R-rated humor into Disney’s family-friendly universe. Levy assured fans that there was no pressure to tone down the character, with full support from Marvel and Disney for an R-rated MCU film.

Reynolds humorously touched on the film’s violence, mentioning that even his nine-year-old had seen it without issue. Jackman added a light-hearted note about the film’s rumored romance element: “It is a film about friendship at its heart and a comic book film. Romance is also there. My character expresses his love for Deadpool by punching him in the face with his claws.”

The star-studded cast also includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin and Jennifer Garner. Levy directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Reynolds, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells and Rhett Reese. Produced by Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner, Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26.
