The 1993 fantasy comedy film Hocus Pocus will get a sequel in 2022. Directed by Kenny Ortega, Hocus Pocus stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witches from Salem, Massachusetts who are accidentally resurrected by a teenage outcast named Max (Omri Katz). The film revolves around Max, along with his high school crush (Vinessa Shaw) and snarky younger sister (Thora Birch) trying to stop the three witches from gaining immortality by draining the youth of all the children in Salem. The film has gained a cult status and developed a massive fan base over the years.

The concept of a sequel to Hocus Pocus had been a popular topic for quite some time. Midler has stated that she would absolutely be willing to come back for a sequel, giving the promise that she and her co-stars would be back with the statement, “As soon as we sign the dotted line.”

The official announcement of a Hocus Pocus sequel was made by Midler through a post on her Instagram: “It’s been 300 years… but we’re BACK!” Najimy and Parker have both been confirmed to return in their roles. Doug Jones has also teased the possibility of coming back in the long-awaited sequel.

It remains to be seen if the other main actors from the original Hocus Pocus movie will return. Katz has been very quiet in his acting career since the first film and officially retired from acting all together in 2002. Meanwhile, Shaw has revealed that she has not been asked to return yet, but she stated that she was open to returning if given the opportunity. Anne Fletcher has been confirmed to be replacing Ortega as the the director of the film.
