Hillary Clinton Dodges Thrown Shoe, Quips About Her Own Softball Skills

Hillary Clinton was delivering a speech at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries in Las Vegas on Thursday when a shoe came flying at her head from the audience.

Clinton managed to dodge the projectile footwear and have a laugh about it. Initially, Clinton thought it could have been a bat, but then realized she was someone's intended target. “That’s somebody throwing something at me?” Clinton asked. “Is that part of Cirque du Soleil?”

“My goodness, I didn't know solid waste management was so controversial," she added, quipping, "Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did."

Following the incident, the unidentified woman was taken into custody. The secret service said that she had not been among the roughly 1,000 ticketed guests and had somehow managed to get through hotel security, reported CNN. It has not been revealed what the woman was protesting.

Since stepping down as the Secretary of State under President Barack Obama, Clinton has booked a number of speaking engagements. It’s speculated that the former senator and first lady has an eye on the 2016 presidential election.
