The premiere of the TV reboot of Heathers has been pushed back twice, now it is being completely scraped.
The modern version of the cult classic was supposed to premiere this past March, but was pushed back to the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead and 17 more injured. The date was moved once again after the recent Sante Fe, Texas, school shooting that killed 10 and injured 13.
Ultimately, Paramount Network decided to remove the show in its entirety out of respect of the victims of school violence.

The decision was decided due to the show’s nature which was similar to the original film. The dark comedy features topics like violence and suicides. “This is a high school show, we’re blowing up the school, there are guns in the school, it’s a satire and there are moments of teachers having guns,” Paramount president of development and production Keith Cox said to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cox realized that the tone of the show was not appropriate for the country’s current climate. “This was a very difficult decision. We had multiple meetings, and in the end, we didn’t feel comfortable right now airing the series and I’m not sure when there might be a time that we as a youthful brand at Viacom would feel comfortable,” he said. “This is a bold move and we stand behind it.”

He added that as now, it is not a show that they are comfortable with airing. “This company can’t be speaking out of both sides of its mouth, saying the youth movement is important for us and we’ve done all these wonderful things to support that and at the same time,” he said. “We’re putting on a show that we’re not comfortable with.”
Despite canceling the premiere, Paramount is willing to sell the rights to the show and are actively trying to find another network to purchase it.
The show’s first season, which consists of ten episodes, has already been completed and the writer already completed script for the second season.
