Heather Rae El Moussa Reflects On Her Life After ‘Toxic’ Experience On ‘Selling Sunset’

Heather Rae El Moussa, 36, real estate agent and former star of the hit Netflix show Selling Sunset, expressed her joy since she moved on from the series.

After El Moussa was reduced to a minor role in the seventh season and confirmed her departure for season eight in December 2023, she has now shed light on her experience and labeled it “very toxic.”

In a recent episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, released on April 1, Heather and her husband, Tarek El Moussa, delved into her time on Selling Sunset. She said of her departure from the series, “It was a blessing that I wasn’t asked to come back because I’m so much happier filming my show with Tarek.” El Moussa emphasized her happiness while filming the HGTV show The Flipping El Moussas, where she and Tarek are co-producers.

One of the main issues El Moussa faced on Selling Sunset was the unpredictable nature of the filming schedule, which made it challenging to balance her real estate career.

“With Selling Sunset, I never knew when I was going to be filming. It was last minute, it took over my life, it was hard to do my real job — real estate,” she stated. It was hard to do anything else.”

She continued to recount difficult days on set and revealed that she would often come home in tears, a sentiment echoed by her husband, Tarek, who added, “Every day.”

Heather further explained that the demanding schedule of Selling Sunset required her to work 12 to 14-hour days and left her with limited time to spend with her husband and children.

“It was crazy,” she recalled. “They just want more and more and more, and you saw me on the show. I was pretty much level-headed almost the whole time. I was kind of friends with everyone, and I kept things pretty chill in my life.”

Heather revealed to her former castmates, “It’s very toxic. You’re around a bunch of women that everyone wants to be stars on the show, you know, number one. And they’ll kind of do anything.”

In June 2022, the couple welcomed a baby boy after a struggle with fertility issues.
