Harvey Weinstein Diagnosed With Rare Form Of Cancer Of The Bone Marrow While In Jail Awaiting Trial
Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is currently undergoing treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia.
Weinstein, whose alleged sexual misconduct speaker the #MeToo movement, is receiving treatment in prison at Rikers Island in New York.
The diagnosis comes amid a string of health challenges. Last month, Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery to relieve fluid in his lungs and heart. In July, he was hospitalized after testing positive for Covid-19 and double pneumonia.
Additionally, Weinstein has been wrapped up in a legal battle with Manhattan prosecutors over a new indictment, which they aim to combine with his 2020 conviction for sexual crimes.
Weinstein’s original conviction was overturned earlier this year after the New York Court of Appeals found that the judge in the trial was prejudiced toward the Hollywood mogul. However, Weinstein is still serving his sentence for a 2022 conviction of rape in Los Angeles.
In a statement, Weinstein’s legal healthcare representative said he would offer “no further comment” about his client’s health “out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy.”
