Grover Norquist Attends Burning Man In Nevada Desert
Grover Norquist, the political advocate best known for his anti-tax positions, was a surprising attendee at the annual Burning Man cultural event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
Grover Norquist At Burning Man
Norquist’s attendance at Burning Man caught many by surprise, as Burning Man is thought to be an event for more liberal-leaning individuals than the founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform. However, Norquist frequently took to Twitter during the weeklong event to sing its praises and counter the stereotypes associated with Burning Man.
Burning Man. 65,000 participants. 1000s of works of art. Anyone who walks through BM and only notices nudity tells you only about himself.

In fact, Norquist enjoyed it so much that he and his wife Samah Alrayyes Norquist are considering bringing their two children for the 2015 festivities.
Now the conversation turns to whether Samah and I bring the two girls to Burning Man next year. There is a kidsville there.

Norquist also had complimentary words for Burning Man co-founder Larry Harvey, tweeting, “[Larry] has created a wonderful festival/movement/Brigadoon.” It is likely that Burning Man’s dedication to “radical self-reliance” appealed to Norquist’s more libertarian sensibilities.
“The Burning Man organization creates the infrastructure of Black Rock City, wherein attendees dedicate themselves to the spirit of community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance,” explains Burning Man on its website. “They depart one week later, leaving no trace. As simple as this may seem, trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind.”
