Greta Thunberg Fined $240 For Refusing To Leave Swedish Oil Protest

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was fined $240 for refusing police orders to leave a protest at an oil terminal in southern Sweden in June.

While protesting, Thunberg and other demonstrators were allegedly blocking traffic from accessing the facility, resulting in her arrest. She appeared at Malmo District Court and admitted to refusing to comply with police orders.

However, she denied that her actions warranted criminal charges.

“My actions are justifiable,” she said in court. “I believe that we are in an emergency that threatens life, health and property. Countless people and communities are at risk both in the short term and in the long term.”

Since 2018, Thunberg has been the face of the youth climate movement. Monday’s trial marks her first conviction for a climate protest.

Thunberg has publically feuded with a number of celebrities including influencer Andrew Tate and even former President Donald Trump. Thunberg’s fight with Tate allegedly led to his arrest for human trafficking earlier this year in Romania.
