GRAMMYs Recap: Sam Smith Wins 4 Awards, Beck Beats Beyoncé For Album Of The Year [Complete Winners List]
Sam Smith dominated the 2015 Grammys Sunday night, picking up four trophies, including one for Record of the Year.
2015 GRAMMYs Recap:
Smith was by far the night’s most beloved artist, as evidenced by both Grammy wins and Twitter adoration. Not only did his smash hit “Stay With Me” pick up two awards, Smith beat out Iggy Azalea to take home the coveted Best New Artist Grammy.
Pharrell Williams was also a big winner of the night, taking home a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for his infectious hit, “Happy,” and beating out Beyoncé for Best Urban Contemporary Album. That said, Beyoncé did not go home empty handed, winning two awards – Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song – for “Drunk In Love.”
Audiences were shocked, however, when Beck won the award for Album of the Year – over Beyoncé’s commanding Beyoncé album, which arguably revolutionized how music is made and released in the digital age. In one of the most entertaining exchanges of the night, Kanye West hopped up on stage and appeared to be re-creating his infamous 2009 VMA mishap in which he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to defend Beyoncé. Instead of taking the mic from Beck, West simply arrived on stage, gave Beck – and the Grammy – a small wave, and jumped right back down, eliciting a roar of laughter from the crowd.
In Country, Miranda Lambert won the Grammy for Best Country Album and took the stage for an explosive performance of “Little Red Wagon.”
