GoPro has become synonymous with body-mounted recording, capturing everything from high-endurance sports to casual bike rides in the city. Now, the company behind the 4K wearable cam is taking its signature product to new heights with the GoPro Karma, a remote controlled camera drone that promises both ease-of-use and silky smooth footage.

While there are many drones on the market, the soon-to-be-released Karma offers similar features at a reasonable price and lightweight design, perfect for hobbyist videographers. Compact, the Karma can fold up up into a backpack that is comfortable to wear on a bike or on a hike (the backpack is also mountable). The drone also comes with its own simple-to-use controller, allowing the camera to be operated without an smartphone app. With joysticks that resemble video game controls, even novice drone flyers can operate the Karma. The built in touchscreen allows the pilot to see what the camera sees, and can notify them when it is low on battery, how high it is flying, and how fast it is moving. New to the GoPro experience, the Passenger App will allow friends to view the flight as well, and even control the camera’s function while you pilot.

What truly makes GoPro’s Karma stand out is how it stabilizes the image. The three-axis gimbal can be removed from the drone and attached to a bike or to a handheld mount. With a camera that is not fixed to your drone, you can get perfectly smooth shots both on the ground and in the air. Simply pop the handheld mount back into the drone for the perfect aerial shot. Karma is designed as system, a complete storytelling tool ready to use no matter where you are.

Karma is compatible with the GoPro Hero 4, Hero 5 Session, and Hero 5 Black, giving you a broad choice of camera options. Available October 23, this portable, convenient, and easy-to-use drone sells for $799 on it’s own, $999 with a Hero 5 Session, and $1099 with a Hero 5 Black.
