Golden Globes 2016: Ricky Gervais Says, “For Myself And Mel Gibson, Shalom”
After Harrison Ford announced The Revenant as the last award for the night for Best Film Drama, the opening credits rolled up and a comment could be heard from host Ricky Gervais.
“For myself and Mel Gibson, shalom,” Gervais said at 11:02 PM over the closing credits.
It is no secret that Gervais got himself into some hot water with Gibson when he joked his drinking on a previous show. The infamous monologue poked fun atGibson’s anti-Semitic rant during a 2006 DUI arrest blaming Jews for the world’s problems.
As Gervais was presenting the actor last night, he didn’t hold back. “I wasn’t judging him, but now I find myself in the awkward position of having to introduce him,” Gervais said about the now infamous 2010 joke. “I blame NBC for this terrible situation.”
Gervais continued with the monologue and searched for something nice to say about the actor. “Mel has forgotten all about it, that’s what drinking does. I’d rather have a drink with him than Bill Cosby.”
During the same night, Gervais added more fuel to the fire. Gervais asked Gibson, “What the f–k is sugar t–s?” which was what Gibson allegedly told a female cop during his 2006 arrest.
“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask the person who said that,” answered an annoyed Gibson, who has long sustained that he never used the sexist phrase.
